Small Things Around Our Home That Actually Make a Difference

Some of the most useful things in our house are the little ones: a light that comes on when we need it, a tray that catches coffee drips, and a door sign that apparently works better than we expected. Here’s what we’re actually using at home right now.
Bedroom Night Lights
We have plug in LED night lights by the bedroom doors, motion activated so nobody's fumbling for a switch in the middle of the night on the way out.
Bathroom Lights
Once you're out the bedroom door, these EZVALO motion sensor lights are tucked under the bathroom cabinets to light the space up automatically. We're on our third version of these over the years because the ones we originally loved keep getting discontinued. A little annoying, but also kind of funny how often it happens. If you've had a favorite version disappear from the shelves too, you're not alone, we just keep adapting.
Bathroom Rug
We also added a waffle texture bath rug, soft underfoot but still practical for a bathroom that doesn't get used a lot.
Coffee Station
Our coffee station has EZVALO motion sensor lights mounted under the cabinet, so we can see what we’re doing without turning on the overhead lights. We have the same setup above the rice cooker and toaster. We also put black trays on the counters to catch the drips and crumbs that always seem to appear. They’re easy to wipe clean, which makes a small but welcome difference.
What We Actually Clean With
Nothing fancy here—just what we reach for. We keep Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day lemon verbena hand soap by the sink and a refill on hand. For cleaning, we’ve been using Humble Suds scouring paste and all-purpose cleaner. They’re products we actually keep in our house and use.
The Sign That Actually Works
This one might be my favorite. Someone gifted us a “sleeping baby (& a loud ass dog)” sign, and we hung it beside our Blink doorbell camera mostly as a joke. Then we watched a solicitor read it and walk away without ringing the bell. We cracked up watching the footage. Gypsy didn’t even have to say a word.
That's what's currently working around here, nothing glamorous, just the small stuff that keeps daily life a little easier.
